Community-Service Emmy Noms Revealed

Community-service and public-service announcements designed and carried by cable networks including Court TV, TBS, TV Land/Nick at Nite, mtvU and MTV were among those nominated for Emmy Awards in community-service categories.
Community-service nominees included Al Roker Investigates: Horrors of Hazing/Menace on Main Street/Kids, Cards & Dice,Court TV; mtvU's Sudan Campaign; and Pathfinders on TBS. They will compete against Y ... Valaio la Pena? on KMEX-TV, the Los Angeles Univision station; and Meth in Tennessee on WKRN-TV Nashville, Tenn.
Black History Is Our History, carried on TV Land/Nick at Nite, and The Passive Aggressive Mutter on MTV will vie for an Emmy in the national-public-service category. They will compete against The Talk/Joint Man from the Partnership for a Drug Free America and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners; Know Aids: Cynthia/Ed from the Kaiser Family Foundation and Viacom/DDB Seattle; Truth Found from the American Legacy Foundation; and Good Samaritans/Profiles/Fang from Arnold Worldwide.
For the first time, a public-service Emmy will be given to an advanced medium. The winner is thetruth.com (www.thetruth.com), a Web site that communicates an anti-smoking message in an entertaining way to youth.
The awards will be presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Oct. 19 at a luncheon at New York's Rainbow Room.
