Comcast Sports Elevates Business Development Duo

Comcast Sports Group elevated a pair of business development executives.
The sports programmer has named Troy Ewanchyna vice president of digital strategy to drive the growth of the digital and multiplatform properties for the company's regional networks.
For his part, Jim Pekala was promoted to vice president of business development to oversee the company's growth though launching and acquiring new programming rights, additional networks, business partnerships and other activities including affiliate sales growth.
Ewanchyna, who will continue to report to Comcast Sports Group executive vice president and chief digital officer Eric Grilly, had been serving as senior director of digital media since April 2008. His accomplishments include overhauling the Web sites for several of the company's networks to deliver substantially more original local sports coverage, most recently launching's live online coverage of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Ewanchyna previously held new media business development positions with the National Hockey League, where his responsibilities included developing the circuit's online content distribution strategy and managing business operations for the NHL Network.
For his part, Pekala previously served as senior director of business development and worked on the acquisition of Comcast SportsNet New England and Comcast SportsNet Bay Area in 2007 and the launch of Comcast SportsNet Northwest in 2007 and The Mtn. - MountainWest Sports Network in 2006.
Pekala, who will continue to reporter to Comcast Sports Group president Jon Litner, has held a variety of programming development and acquisition positions at Comcast, including working on the NHL rights agreement for the company's national sports service. He previously served as audit associate with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Philadelphia.
