Comcast to Aid Ex-AOL Employees

Comcast Corp. will sponsor job fairs in Jacksonville, Fla., for former AOL employees Wednesday and Thursday.

The fairs have been planned in response to approximately 800 local AOL employees losing their jobs. Employees were let go due to the closure of the Internet-service provider’s customer-care facility.

“[The center’s closing] obviously had a major impact on the city of Jacksonville and was a major concern with people wondering what their next step would be,” said Reg Griffin, vice president of communications for Comcast.

Comcast hopes to fill 160-200 technical and front-line customer-service positions.

“It’s a good opportunity to meet and hopefully recruit some very qualified people who are probably very happy to be living in Jacksonville and would like to stay down there,” Griffin added.

The job fairs will be held at 6805 Southpoint Parkway from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. each day. Applicants should bring a copy of their resume, driver’s license and social security card, and they should be ready to interview for training classes beginning in June.
