CEA, NATAS Set To Grant Global Media Awards

The Consumer Electronics Association and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will partner to launch a Global Media Awards program, focused on technology and content, at the 2009 International CES Show, officials said Thursday.

NATAS already recognizes excellence in television by bestowing the Emmy Awards. It is teaming up with the CEA, which will produce the 2009 International CES, the world’s largest event for consumer technology. The show will take place in Las Vegas Jan. 8 to 11.

“The International CES is the global intersection of digital entertainment and technology,” CEA president Gary Shapiro (pictured) said in a prepared statement. “The companies responsible for bringing new digital media and content to consumers around the world deserve special recognition and the International CES is the perfect venue for this new awards program. We’re thrilled to partner with NATAS to bring this new collaboration to the CES show floor.”

A call for entries for the Global Media Awards and details about the ceremony on Jan. 8 will be released later this month.

The 2009 International CES will feature more than 2,700 consumer technology companies, spanning across 30 product categories including content, wireless, in-vehicle technology, gaming and more.
