Cablevision To Offer 48-Hour Rentals For On-Demand Movie Titles

Cablevision Systems is the latest MSO to expand the window for renting on demand movies to a full two days, the company announced Thursday.

Cablevision is offering a 48-hour window -- up from 24 hours -- for most of its on demand titles at no additional cost to its iO TV customers, MSO executives said. Customers can see hundreds of extended rental window movies on the MSO's channel 500 on demand listings.

Titles now available from Cablevision for 48-hour rental include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Abduction, The Adventures of Tintin, Contraband, Hop, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, The Iron Lady, The Rum Diary and War Horse.

The MSO joins other MSOs including Time Warner Cable and Comcast in offering 48-hour rental windows for on-demand movies.

"We're excited about this significant expansion of our rental windows,"
said Bradley Feldman, Cablevision's vice president of video product
management in a statement. "Now, a spontaneous Friday night rental will remain active
through the entire weekend, providing additional convenience and
flexibility, at no additional charge. We think this is an enhancement
our customers will enjoy and appreciate."
