Betty White, TV Land's 'Hot In Cleveland` Garner SAG Nominations
Might it be too Hot In Cleveland for TV Land not to pick up a SAG Awards next month?
TV Land's original comedy scored a pair of Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations this morning: for ensemble in a comedy series, as well as comedy actress for everybody's favorite octogenarian, Betty White and her portrayal of Elka Ostrovsky.
White's Cleveland cast mates, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick, will hold the cable flag in this category battling against the group's from broadcast stalwarts 30 Rock (NBC), Modern Family (ABC), The Office (NBC) and last year's winner, Fox's Glee.
For her part, White is competing for female comedy honors with Edie Falco (Showtime's Nurse Jackie), Jane Lynch (Glee), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) and Tina Fey, who is looking to make it a SAG four-peat for her portrayal of Liz Lemon.
Meanwhile, HBO and AMC garnered the most cable network-based SAG nominations. HBO garnered nine nominations, including two for its original series Boardwalk Empire, which drew a best drama series nomination and a best actor nod for series star Steve Buscemi.
Boardwalk Empire will vie with TNT's The Closer, Showtime's Dexter, CBS's The Good Wife and the two-time defending SAG category champ, AMC's Mad Men, for top drama series honors.
Buscemi will match up with Bryan Cranston (AMC's Breaking Bad), Michael C. Hall (Showtime's Dexter), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Hugh Laurie (Fox's House) for best actor.
Three actresses from HBO's original autism movie Temple Grandin -- Claire Danes, Catherine O'Hara and Julia Ormond -- all grabbed best female actor nominations in the TV movie or mini-series category.
