X1 Connects Comcast Subs to Movie Tickets

Following integrations of online video services and a mix of casual games, Comcast has added another wrinkle to its X1 set-top-box platform — a tool for customers to order movie tickets.

That capability is somewhat limited early on, as Comcast has teamed up with NBCUniversal-owned Fandango on a way for X1 customers to find movie times and order tickets to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (opening on June 22) using the video platform’s voice remote.

At this stage of the integration, Comcast’s X1 customers can say, “Get tickets” into the voice remote to search from more than 30,000 theatrical screens in the U.S. and pull up a list of showtimes at nearby theaters. In a less direct route, X1 subs who watch the movie trailer on Comcast’s VOD system will receive an on-screen notification prompting them to use the X1 remote’s “info” button to start the ticket-ordering process.

Customers can use this process to order tickets to an upcoming showing, though they still must complete the purchase via Fandango’s mobile app or website. Comcast and Fandango said they intend to extend the feature for more movie releases throughout the year.
