Study: Global Online TV Revenue to Top $42B by 2020

Global TV online revenue is expected to rise to $42.3 billion by 2020, more than twice the $19.03 billion expected in 2014, according to a new report from Digital TV Research.

While the U.S. will continue to be the dominant OTT market, its influence is expected to wane over time. According to its Global Online TV & Video Revenue Forecasts, Digital TV Research expects the U.S. share of the OTT market to dip from 59% ($2.3 billion) of total revenue in 2010 to 37% ($15.5 billion) in 2020 as international markets catch up. China, for example, is expected to grow its online TV and video revenue from $37 million in 2010 to $3.03 billion by 2020, according to the report.

Digital TV Research also expects subscription video on demand revenue to rise from $7.65 billion in 2014 to $16.77 billion in 2020. According to the study, SVOD will contribute 40% of total OTT revenues in 2020, up from 27% in 2010.
