Weather Channel Co., NCTC Reach Long-Term Renewal

The National Cable Television Cooperative has reached a renewal deal with its first-ever programming affiliate, The Weather Co.

The deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, provides for linear carriage of The Weather Channel and Weatherscan services. The pact also affords NCTC member companies, who opt into the master agreement, with TV Everywhere rights. The distributors' authenticated video customers can gain access to the programmer's content across myriad devices.

“NCTC is pleased to continue our long relationship with The Weather Channel that gives our members access to the forecasts, severe weather coverage and weather programming their customers enjoy and have come to rely upon in their daily lives." said Judy Meyka, NCTC’s executive vice president of programming.

“The Weather Channel was the first deal NCTC ever struck, which resulted in a more than 30-year partnership that has been beneficial for all,” said Jennifer Dangar, chief strategy officer and president of distribution for The Weather Co.. “Renewing our agreement with NCTC and its nearly 900 members will enable us to continue to provide vital weather information, important alerts and live breaking coverage of severe weather to millions of viewers across the country.”

The Weather Channel, which said it recently signed renewals with Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable, enjoyed strong ratings during February, as much of the nation has been blanketed with snow, ice and cold weather.
