By Jeff Baumgartner published
Sling TV said Villanova’s buzzer-beating 77-74 March Madness championship victory over North Carolina on Monday night on TBS scored a viewing record for the Dish-owned OTT-TV service that's tailored for cord-cutters.
“So many of you joined us on this journey that last night’s game became the most watched event in Sling TV history (previously held by this year’s College Football Playoffs), incredible,” Sling TV announced Tuesday in this blog post. (opens in new tab)
Sling said viewership increased by 1,140% from “from the tip-off of the first game to cutting down the Championship nets.”
Dish no longer breaks out Sling TV subs, but the OTT-TV service now has more than 600,000 subs, according to The Wall Street Journal.
