Dish Taps Synacor’s Cloud ID Social Login Platform

Aiming to ease and simplify the sign-on process for authenticated TV Everywhere content, Dish has rolled out Synacor’s Cloud ID Social Login for Dish Anywhere, the satellite giant’s in-home and mobile TVE offering.

The addition will enable Dish subs to access the Dish Anywhere service using their social accounts, including Facebook, Twitter or Google+.

"At DISH, we understand that logging-in shouldn't be difficult or complicated. With Synacor's Cloud ID Social Login, we're giving our subscribers a next-level experience—easy access to their favorite shows and apps, across all our sites and mobile devices—with their login of choice," said Vivek Khemka, SVP of product management for Dish. "Our collaborative partnership with Synacor is another example of how DISH continues to evolve the television experience, from award-winning products like the Hopper, to the DISH Anywhere portal and applications."

Dish has already been using Synacor’s Cloud ID SSO Authentication platform, which detects when the authentication process already has been completed, allowing subscribers to skip repeating the login process. Synacor claims that the platform has helped lead to an overall abandonment rate of less than 10 percent—well below the industry average.

Although TVE usage is on the rise, authentication has long been viewed as a hindrance to even faster growth.

Speaking at the Multichannel News/Broadcasting & Cable Next TV Summit in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Michael Bishara, Synacor’s SVP of product, noted that in-home auto-authentication systems have helped the cause, and predicted that the evolution of TVE technologies eventually will lead to out-of-home auto-authentication.  http://www.multichannel.com/news/technology/next-tv-horizon-out-home-auto-authentication/375348
