A new voice-over-Internet-protocol product from Texas Instruments Inc. is
aimed at making a better call for small-office/home-office and small to midsized
enterprise customers.
The "NNETV2510" gateway -- based on TI’s digital-signal-processor technology
and software from its Telogy Networks acquisition -- can be incorporated in
customer-premises equipment to support toll-quality voice in either eight
low-bit-rate or 16 pulse-code modulation channels. It also can support fax
transmissions.
Integrating the Telogy software on the unit can cut costs for
original-equipment manufacturers in setting standard features, making the
resulting CPE cheaper for the business customer.

"This solution was optimally architected to meet the requirements of the
price-sensitive, feature-rich, high volume CPE gateway application space and
offers our customers more functionality and increased end-product scalability to
better serve this segment of the market," said Debbie Greenstreet, TI’s
product-management director for the VoIP-business unit.
The price for the gateway varies with quantity and optional software
configurations, but TI estimated that it will cost about $32 apiece for
10,000-unit volumes.
