Sling TV ‘Blue’ Gets NBC On Demand

Sling TV, Dish’s OTT service that specializes in slimmed-down pay TV tiers, is broadening its new “Blue” multi-stream offering by enabling access to NBC shows such as Superstore, The Voice and America’s Got Talent on an on-demand basis outside the broadcaster’s ten O&O markets the day after they air on live TV.

Sling TV Blue, a service that sells for $25 per month when purchased as a stand-alone, also offers the local NBC feeds in the O&O markets -- Chicago, New York, San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas/Fort Worth, Washington, DC, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, and Hartford/New Haven. Blue also offers local Fox feeds in the Fox O&Os.

Sling TV currently offers a $5 discount to subs who also take Sling Orange, a tier that includes ESPN and costs $20 per month as a stand-alone, for a total of $40 per month. Sling TV’s “Broadcast Extra” $5 per month add-on features ABC, Univision and UniMás in Chicago, Fresno-Visalia, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, and San Francisco.

Sling TV’s on-demand angle with NBC is similar to the approach Sony is taking with PlayStation Vue, a fuller-freight virtual MVPD service. PS Vue offers the local broadcast TV feeds of ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC in all of their respective in O&O markets and provides next-day VOD access to shows from those networks in all markets.
