RCN Puts ESPN Broadband in Play
RCN Corp. is getting a stronger broadband game, cutting a deal with ESPN
Broadband to add the sports outlet's content to its Web portal (www.rcn.com/index.php).
RCN launched ESPN Broadband this week, giving subscribers access to sports
video highlights, commentary, analysis, behind-the-scenes footage and original
content.
Subscribers also can use "Bottomline," an application that provides a ticker
of top headlines, statistics and scores updated in real time. The content will
be provided to subscribers free-of-charge for the remainder of 2003.
The addition of the sports content banks on RCN's recent launch of HDTV
services in several markets.
"RCN recently launched HDTV in several of its markets, including ESPN's
high-definition-television network. Now sports fans can experience the richest
sports content available on their PC and TV, all from one company," said Rick
Rioboli, RCN's vice president of product management and development, in a
release.
