Digital-video-server supplier Pathfire Inc. and Warner Bros. Domestic
Television Distribution are delving into an all-digital, Internet-protocol
store-and-forward delivery system for over-the air syndicated programming.
Using Pathfire’s "Digital Media Gateway" technology, Warner Bros. is now
transmitting The Drew Carey Show, Street Smarts and
elimiDATE episodes, and it plans to add Friends, Will &
Grace, ER and Suddenly Susan in the coming weeks.
This marks the first time in the industry that distribution has shifted from
a linear feed to store-and-forward format for broadcast television.
The system will allow syndicators to deliver, track, manage and verify
packaged digital programming, commercial spots and promos delivered to broadcast
stations. Using an IP connection, the feeds also do not have to be confined to
scheduled satellite-transmission feeds.
