Google Fiber Touts Condo Connections

Google Fiber may have hit the pause button on an ambitious market expansion plan as it concentrates on current deployments and wireless alternatives, but it claims to be gaining ground with respect to multi-dwelling units in its existing footprint.

Google Fiber this week announced that it has activated service to more than 3,000 apartment and condo communities in its existing Fiber cities, along with another 300 “Community Connections,” an internet-only service that’s offered in partnership with local nonprofit organizations.

Regarding the MDU-focused strategy, “[i]t’s a collaborative effort -- working with each property, we identify the best way to serve their residents from the beginning of construction to installation and our ongoing service,” Lee Bienstock, head of partnerships at Google Fiber, noted in this blog post.

Bienstock also announced that Google Fiber has expanded our its commitment to become a technology partner by launching the Google Hardware Program, a connected home inititiatve that provides properties with preferred pricing on company products such as Google Home and Nest Thermostats.
