DCT-2000 Has Wink in Interactive Eye

The DCT-2000 box has now acquired a Wink.

Motorola Broadband Communications Sector announced that it has integrated the
electronic-commerce software engine from Wink Communications Inc. and TV Guide
Interactive's electronic programming guide to run on its widely distributed
DCT-2000 digital set-top box.

The integrated software has been launched on boxes in Charter Communications
Inc.'s beta-test bed in Madison, Wis., and plans are to roll it out in 13 more
systems in the next 30 days.

'This is our first deployment on the Motorola DCT-2000, and our first
integration with the IPG leader, TV Guide Interactive,' said Melinda White,
executive vice president of national accounts for Wink, in a release.

'The combined product solution is ideal for leading-edge cable operators like
Charter Communications that want to deploy high-performance digital set-tops,'
she added

Charter has more than 1.5 million DCT-2000s deployed.

Wink's e-commerce system lets viewers access additional information from
advertisements and programs using their remote controls.

Enhanced ads can provide coupons, offers and additional product information,
while enhanced programs can include news updates, trivia notes or interactive
games.
