Cox Communications confirmed that it is preparing to launch Glosi, a Hispanic-focused subscription video streaming service that will feature “thousands of hours of exclusive content and original programming.”
The new multiscreen service, being developed via a unit called Glosi Entertainment LLC, is expected to launch in pilot mode this August. The Donohue Report first reported on Cox’s new OTT offering.
Glosi is current offering special pre-launch pricing ahead of the pilot debut.
According to the service’s web site, Glosi will regularly sell for $9.99 per month, or $7.99 under a pre-launch price that also comes with a one-week free trial. Glosi is also offering a 40% discount off the regular price to the first 500 customers who agree to pre-pay for three months of service (plus two weeks for free) for $17.97.
Cox has not announced content partners for Glosi, but offered this statement about the service:
“Glosi is a Hispanic-focused video streaming service and online portal with thousands of hours of exclusive content and original programming. The ad-free, subscription-based destination allows multiple users on one account to stream, discover, and share their favorite shows. Glosi’s unique buzz section combines compelling content with the look and feel of a premium entertainment magazine, allowing subscribers access to behind the scenes exclusives, social media updates of cast and crew, and much more. Glosi will launch its pilot offer later in August.”
Glosi represents Cox’s latest OTT-focused move. Cox had previously offered or tested FlarePlay (an OTT subscription gaming service), and FlareKids (a curated Web video offering tailored for youngsters), but announced in February that it was shutting down the Flare brand
Cox is also the latest MVPD to try its hand at an OTT-delivered SVOD service focused on Spanish-language programming.
DirecTV launched Yaveo in late 2014, but confirmed about a year later (and about five months after it was acquired by DirecTV) that it was shutting down Yaveo on Dec. 16, 2015.
