CNN Has a Go on Roku

CNN has launched CNNgo on Roku players and integrated Roku TVs, a move that expands the reach of the news network’s authenticated TV Everywhere app.

During a keynote conversation Tuesday (December 1) at the Multichannel News/B&C Next TV Summit in San Francisco, Steve Shannon, Roku’s general manager, content services, noted that Roku’s audience development initiative was one of the reasons CNN decided to launch an app on his company’s platform.

CNN’s app features the network’s live feed and access to shows and clips on-demand. Toronto-based Digiflare said it was tapped to handle the custom development and design for the CNNgo app for Roku.

“With the release of CNNgo on Roku streaming devices, CNN is continuing to give viewers control over their news experience on the platform of their choice," said Rajin Persaud, CNN’s VP of Digital Video and TVE Products, in a statement.  “We’re excited to bring CNNgo’s industry-leading capabilities – like contextualizing live television and syncing video with complementary content in real time 24-7 – to Roku customers.”

CNNgo is also offered on Web browsers, the Apple iPad and the Apple TV.  Multichannel News will publish a representative view of programmer TVE apps and the platforms they support in the December 7 issue.
