Broadband multimedia transport provider BigBand Networks Inc. and optical
telecommunications provider Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. are joining
product forces to deliver digital video via optical networks more
efficiently.
Under a non-exclusive strategic relationship, the two companies will jointly
hawk the BigBand Broadband Multimedia-Service Router and the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE
4500 multiservice optical transport system.
The two companies hope to lure cable cooperators with the combined products,
which they say can deliver high-quality video between cable facilities over
fiber networks.
'The full potential of digital cable networks is achieved when multiple
reliable services are deployed on existing infrastructure at low cost, said
Parker Blackwell, vice president of metro marketing for Fujitsu.
'Together we are realizing networks that are truly for all media, with
enhanced services.'
