AT&T Tees Up Trio of City-Specific Offers

AT&T offers mobile services, but the company’s marketers have taken a localized angle with a new trio of offers that, it claims, have been tailored for consumers in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles.

-In New York: A free year of DirecTV Now (its “Live a Little” package) when customers switch to AT&T’s new Unlimited Plus Enhanced or Unlimited Choice Enhanced mobile plans. AT&T said those subs can also use a $35 monthly video credit on any package of DirecTV Now, the OTT TV service that ended 2017 with 1.15 million subs.

-In Chicago: AT&T is offering “free home internet for life” (up to 50 Mbps) to those who switch from any wireless competitor to its Unlimited Plus Enhanced plan (at a minimum of $80 per month after discounts). Consumers who want faster speeds can apply a $30 monthly internet credit to a higher-level tier.

-In Los Angeles: Customers who buy a new smartphone, including Apple’s iPhone X (64 GB), will get another for no added cost when both are put on AT&T Next and add a new line with eligible wireless service.

On the national side, AT&T, starting March 1, is rolling out new AT&T Unlimited Plus Enhanced and AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced plans. The first line for AT&T Unlimited Plus Enhanced starts at $80 with 15 GB of mobile hotspot data per line (that’s $10 less than the previous version of the plan, along with a 5-GB increase in mobile hotspot data, per DSL Reports); AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced unlimited 4G LTE data is $40 a line when customers have four lines.

As for that “unlimited” claim, the fine print notes that customers could see slower speeds during “busy times” after they consume more than 22 GB in a given monthly period.

AT&T also points out that the new plans, like the previous versions, also include HBO and a $15 "loyalty credit" that can be applied to AT&T video services.
