The booming cable-telephony-service market was good to Arris in the fourth quarter, as the cable-telephony and broadband-data gear provider showed strong revenue gains and a 39% jump in revenue for the full year.
In its preliminary fourth-quarter-2005 and year-end financial report, Suwanee, Ga.-based Arris posted revenues of $181.3 million for the fourth quarter, up from $129 million posted in the same quarter last year but a drop from the $201 million gathered in the third quarter of 2005.
For the full year, revenues came in at $680.4 million, a healthy 39% jump compared with the $490 million collected in 2004. Net income for the fourth quarter equaled 20 cents per share, and for the full year, it totaled 52 cents -- a big improvement versus the 33-cent loss Arris posted for the 2004 fiscal year.
Arris appears to be getting a significant boost in sales of its “Cadant” cable-modem-termination system and “Cornerstone” switched-telephony product lines. Broadband-products revenues totaled $92.9 million in the fourth quarter, a 14.3% jump compared with the third quarter of 2005’s $81.3 million.
But an expected decrease in embedded media-terminal adaptors contributed to a 26.1% drop in sales for the supplies and consumer-premises-equipment lines, down from $119.7 million in the third quarter to $88.4 million in the fourth.
Going forward, the company projected that revenues for the first quarter of 2006 will range from $185 million-$200 million, with net income per share totaling 17 cents-21 cents.
