AOL Names McKinley CTO

America Online Inc. has a new technical guru.

The Internet arm of AOL Time Warner Inc. named John McKinley chief technology
officer and president of AOL Technologies. The CTO post is a new position.

McKinley, former CTO for Merrill Lynch & Co. and General Electric Capital
Corp., will direct the company’s technical efforts, particularly as it delves
into broadband. He will oversee product engineering, network infrastructure,
data centers, internal business systems and computing. McKinley will report to
AOL vice chairman Joe Ripp.

In a prepared statement, Ripp said McKinley was chose because of his
reputation in the business world.

"In addition, John has helped some of the largest companies in the world to
implement ambitious technological efforts while maintaining strong fiscal
discipline," Ripp added. "I look forward to working closely with John as we help
our members to take advantage of all of the Internet's potential as we enter the
broadband world."
