Hoping to add a cable flavor to its Internet outlet, ABC News pulled the
wrapper off ABC News on Demand, a subscription high-speed content package on ABCNEWS.com.
The broadband-video-content package, launched Wednesday, includes
high-bandwidth video news coverage; special cuts of programs including Good
Morning America, Barbara Walters' celebrity interviews and 20/20; and
other news-feature reports.
Its cost is $4.95 monthly.
The service is also available to subscribers of RealNetworks Inc.'s 'RealOne
SuperPass,' which costs $9.95 monthly.
'ABC News on Demand permits us to make our coverage available to individual
members of our audience when and where they want it,' said David Westin,
president of ABC News, in a release.
'Now we can provide the quality of carefully reported and produced
network-news reports, together with the convenience that, until now, has been
associated only with cable news,' he added.
For RNI, the new content addition to RealOne SuperPass is part of a shift in
Internet content, according to chairman and CEO Rob Glaser.
'The move to create ABC News on Demand further validates the trend for media
companies to provide a robust, high-quality digital-media experience to
consumers for a fee,' he said.
