Earlier this month I wrote about the odd Internet prank of "rick rolling," in which a link purported to be of a cool video clip actually sends the prankee to Rick Astley’s 1987 No. 1 hit "Never Gonna Give You Up."
On Monday, The New York Timesran an item on the phenomenon, describing a supposed real-life rick-roll. The paper said an Eastern Washington University women’s basketball game was interrupted by an Astley impersonator singing the notorious ditty.
One problem: The YouTube video that served as the paper-of-record’s anecdote was a fake — created by an EWU student – according to KHQ, the NBC affiliate in Spokane, Wash.
