World Cup: Globosat, Envivio Team on 4K Delivery
With the quarterfinals set, Envivio is ready to assist Globosat in delivering 4K TV coverage of the business end of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Globosat, a leading content provider to cable, satellite and IPTV operators in South America, has added Envivio as one of its partners to broadcast live the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship matches in Ultra HD/4K resolution.
Envivio, which counts over 300 content and service provider clients worldwide, will broadcast the games in 60 frames per second with rich color clarity for live-action events. The soccer presentation follows Envivio’s successful live 4K broadcast of the 2014 French Open tennis tournament in May.
“First tennis, then soccer, whatever the sport, Envivio’s leading technology and experience in powering world-watching live action events makes us the number one choice for content owners and service providers alike,” said Envivio CTO Jean-Pierre Henot. “We’re happy to support Globosat with this special Ultra HD broadcast of the final World Cup games."
Noted Globostat CTO Robert Primo: "4K TV delivers four times the resolution of traditional HD video. Global sporting events like the 2014 World Cup finals are the ideal stage to showcase the promise of 4K TV to consumers. We are excited to partner with Envivio to power the transmission of this mega event."
Envivio Muse Ultra HD is a high-quality live or file-based video encoding/transcoding solution designed to offer a new TV experience for viewers desiring to watch ultra-HD quality programming on Ultra HD compatible devices. Muse Ultra HD can encode up to 4K video resolution – four times HD resolution – in up to 60 frames per second, offers a larger color range with the new BT 2020 standard and can be encoded in eight or 10 bits.
Envivio Muse software is designed to support both live and on-demand 4K compression in HEVC format. The HEVC standard reduces bandwidth consumption compared to MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) by 30% to 50%, improving the video experience and reducing cost of operations for both Ultra HD big-screen services and existing mobile or over-the-top TV services.
