WGN Runs Baseball Sweeps in 10 Markets
Chicago Superstation WGN's "Boys of Summer Sweepstakes" is in 10 major
markets, reaching 3.5 million subscribers via unspecified cable affiliates owned
by such MSOs as Charter Communications Inc., Comcast Corp., Cox Communications
Inc. and Time Warner Cable.
Each participating operator will award its winner an all-expenses-paid trip
to Chicago to see his or her team play the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Under way since May, this sweepstakes is WGN's first affiliate promotion
since 2001. It was developed by Cenergy Sports & Entertainment.
The affiliates' media mix relied heavily on direct mail and local-cable
promos, as well as radio and newspapers, a Cenergy spokeswoman said
Wednesday.
