Verizon Lands Another L.I. FiOS Franchise

Verizon Communications Inc. gained preliminary permission in yet another New York community to market its FiOS TV service.

The Long Island village of Cedarhurst Monday approved a franchise for Verizon to offer the fiber-optic-delivered TV service to its 6,150 residents. But Verizon still has to gain final approval from the New York State Public Service Commission before it can start marketing service to the community.

Still, Cedarhurst is the sixth community in the state to green-light the FiOS TV service. Verizon has secured franchises in Long Island community Massapequa Park and Rockland County’s Nyack, South Nyack and Upper Nyack. Long Island’s Hempstead also granted the regional Bell operating company a cable franchise that is now before the PSC.
