Univision’s Jorge Ramos Gets Honor of a Lifetime
New York—Univision newscaster Jorge Ramos will receive the Award for a Lifetime of Achievement in Hispanic Television, presented by Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable magazines at a luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the New York Hilton.
Ramos, the co-anchor of Univision news program Noticiero Univision and host of the Sunday public affairs show Al Punto, has won eight Emmy awards for excellence in journalism and hosted political forums with U.S. presidential candidates twice in the past year.
The announcement was made today by Larry Dunn, the publisher for the two trade publications.
“We at Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable are thrilled and honored that Jorge Ramos has accepted our invitation to receive this award,” Dunn said.
Jorge Ramos has covered issues of interest to Hispanic Americans, ranging from elections in the U.S. and Latin America, to natural disasters and wars, to human rights and injustices in the U.S. and around the world. He is one of the most respected broadcast journalists in the U.S. and Latin America.
Al Punto, Univision’s Sunday-morning political talk show, features exclusive interviews with prominent newsmakers, as well as a roundtable analysis of current events. In addition, Ramos has also co-hosted two historic political forums, with Democratic and Republican presidential candidates in Spanish, and one debate co-hosted with CNN.
“Jorge Ramos is most certainly deserving of this industry acknowledgement as he is highly-regarded by his colleagues in both Spanish- and English-language television,” Dunn said. “But, perhaps he is most deserving because of his professional approach to the news, which is reflected by his popularity with his loyal viewers.”
