The Weather Channel and Wind River Systems Inc. are wishing upon an "IntelliStar."
The cable network and the device-software-optimization vendor teamed up on what they called the "next-generation, geography-specific TV-programming system and device," which will enable TWC to target relevant local weather, programming and advertising content to its viewers.
Programming distributors including Cox Communications Inc., Comcast Corp., DirecTV Inc., Charter Communications Inc. and the National Cable Television Cooperative are on board for IntelliStar, TWC said.
The network added that some 2,000 IntelliStar-based systems will be deployed to cable headends across the country, reaching an estimated 50 million viewers, by this fall.
