Time Warner Cable said Jeffrey Hirsch has been named executive vice president and chief marketing officer, replacing Sam Howe, who abruptly left the company Friday.
Hirsch, 39, has been with Time Warner Cable since 1999, and most recently served at corporate headquarters overseeing the launch of the company's iPad app. During the prior eight years, Hirsch served as president, residential services for the New York City Region, president of the Los Angeles Metro Region and president of the Rochester, N.Y. region. In each of those roles he was responsible for sales, marketing, customer care and technical operations.
"Jeff is an exceptionally versatile and gifted executive with a unique understanding of our products and customers," Time Warner Cable chief operating officer Robert Marcus said in a statement. "His strong marketing background and proven track record in operating cable systems make him an excellent choice to lead our marketing initiatives in a new era of more intense competition and product differentiation."
Howe had been chief marketing officer at Time Warner Cable since 2005 after serving two years as senior vice president of marketing for voice services. An industry veteran, Howe started in the cable industry in 1982 at Centel Cable. He later held various positions in finance and marketing at Cox Communications and worked from 1993-98 at Telewest Communications plc in the United Kingdom, where he gained experience in the telephone and Internet industries.
Howe also worked for Turner Broadcasting System Inc. as senior vice president of network sales in 1998 and 1999, and he was executive vice president of eTour Inc. from 1999-2001.
