TWC Cable Sports Inks Bright House Deal for Lakers' Nets

Time Warner Cable Sports has its first affiliate for its Los Angeles Lakers-centered regional sports networks: Bright House Networks.

The nation’s sixth-largest cable operator has launched Time Warner Cable SportsNet and TimeWarner Cable Deportes, the nation’s first Spanish-language RSN, to its California subscribers in the Bakersfield area.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes are available on Bright House systems in both standard-definition and high-definition to customers with its Standard or Digital Variety levels of service. Subscribers will be able to see the networks, which also orbit around Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy and the WNBA LA Sparks, as they present the Lakers' first preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 7.

Deal terms were not disclosed. Published reports indicate that Time Warner Cable Sports has been seeking a combined $3.95 in monthly subscriber fees for both services. Typically, Time Warner Cable conducts programming contract negotiations for Bright House Networks. The parties declined comment on the discussions.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet is on SD channel 113 and HD channel 1113, while Time Warner Cable Deportes is located on SD channel 631 and HD channel 1631.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet will also be available to Bright House’s analog customers on channel 23, starting on Oct. 30.
