TV Guide Adopts `Alert' Strategy

TV Guide Channel announced Thursday that it has developed 'an
immediate-response alert strategy' in hopes of minimizing viewer confusion as
broadcast and cable networks' program schedules are disrupted by breaking
news.

As breaking-news developments occur, the network will air 10- and 30-second
advisory public-service announcements advising viewers about resulting
program-schedule changes and pre-emptions.

Also due to the Sept. 11 tragedies and the subsequent U.S. military
retaliation in Afghanistan, the channel said it has reworked some of its
programming.

For instance, TV Guide Television Group president Pam McKissick said its
Hollywood Insider program has been retooled to tone down lighter stories
and include 'America's Update' as a new segment offering guidance on the news
coverage.
