Tut Is King in Illinois

Western Illinois Video LLC is deploying digital-TV service over its eight member companies’ broadband networks using Tut Systems Inc.’s “Astria” content processor, the vendor said Monday.

Tut provided the staging, system integration and on-site installation of its Astria digital-headend solution, with ancillary satellite and off-air video receivers, to enable WIV to deliver digital TV over its members' xDSL (digital subscriber line) and hybrid-fiber coaxial networks, the company said.

Pre-rollout testing is currently ongoing at six WIV members -- Oneida Telephone, Viola Home Telephone, Woodhull Telephone, Mid-Century Telephone Cooperative, New Windsor Telephone Co. and Reynolds Telephone Co. -- with commercial rollout expected by the end of the third quarter.

The remaining two WIV members -- LaHarpe Telephone Co. and McDonough Telephone Cooperative -- plan to roll out service by year-end, Tut said.

“The forward-thinking approach of cooperatives such as WIV creates unique requirements for deploying a digital-TV platform,” Tut CEO Sal D'Auria said in a prepared statement.

"Our company's expertise in video networking and the flexibility of the Astria platform offer customers a solution that will support the next generation of digital entertainment and interactive services,” he added.
