TiVo has integrated startup Flingo’s Launchpad video service into its Premiere digital video recorders, to provide more than 70 on-demand video applications including those for A&E, History, Showtime Networks, TV Guide and TMZ.
The “Launchpad for TiVo” app became available to customers with retail Premiere DVRs as of Thursday. Currently it is not available to Premiere DVRs provided through TiVo's cable operator customers.
“People are demanding access to online streaming content from the comfort of their own living room, and TiVo’s offerings has evolved to support that demand,” said Tara Maitra, senior vice president and general manager of content and media sales at TiVo. “Flingo’s platform and wide range of apps makes it possible for TiVo to offer even more choices to our viewers, and we’re excited to work with Flingo.”
Flingo, founded in 2008, claims its platform currently is available on more than 15 million screens in 118 countries worldwide. The San Francisco-based company last year raised $7 million in funding from August Capital and $1 million from Mark Cuban and Gary Lauder.
