Time Warner Cable is moving out of its Stamford, Conn., corporate offices, relocating about 220 employees to New York City and two other locations, the company announced internally on Monday.
More than two-thirds of the affected employees will shift to TWC’s corporate office at Columbus Circle in Manhattan, about 30 will head to Herndon, Va., and a smaller number will move to Charlotte, N.C., the company said. The lease on the Harbor Drive location was running out, and as the cable company doesn’t have any operations there it was decided to relocate as space became available in the other locations, the company said.
The move will begin in September and be done by the middle of next year, TWC said in a memo distributed internally on Monday.
While the second-biggest U.S. cable company lists its corporate headquarters as in Stamford, key officials, led by CEO Glenn Britt,
to the twin-towered Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle in early 2007. The Herndon and Charlotte locations also have
as hubs over the years, taking in employees formerly in Denver, for example.
The company said the move was not directly related to Time Warner Cable’s
as a public company, apart from Time Warner Inc.
A company spokesman did not return a phone message left about the relocation late Monday afternoon.
Separately, North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley’s office announced Monday that Time Warner Cable will invest $3.68 million in the Charlotte operations and add 200 jobs there over the next four years, expanding the local work force above 1,000. Time Warner Cable obtained a state grant to help underwrite the construction of new office space there, the second such grant it has received.
The governor’s office said the new jobs would pay an average salary of $70,375 per year, excluding benefits, which is more than the Mecklenburg County average of $48,724.
