Starting with a seven-episode marathon at noon ET/PT on Dec. 20, the soon-to-be-rebranded mun2 will air the telenovela each weeknight at 9 p.m., starting Dec. 22.
El Señor de los Cielos features Rafael Amaya as legendary 1990s Mexican drug lord Aurelio Casillas, whose ambition was to become one of the richest and most powerful men in his country. The second season offers a new plot twist: Just when everyone thought that Casillas has died during plastic surgery to change his appearance, it is discovered that the death was fake -- part of his plan to wreak vengeance on those who betrayed him.
Produced by Telemundo Studios and filmed by Argos Television, El Señor de los Cielos has received international accolades along with strong Nielsen ratings performances.
On Nov. 24, the show was awarded the first-ever Emmy given in the category of Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program at the 42nd edition of the International Emmy Awards, held in New York.
“We are extremely proud to be recognized by our industry peers for this project, which perfectly embodies our ‘super series’ format,” Josh Mintz, executive vice president of scripted programming and general manager of Telemundo Studios, said. “The success of the El Señor de los Cielos has been possible thanks to a great team of professionals at Telemundo Studios and a very powerful cast led by our very own Rafael Amaya.”

According to Santana, El Señor de los Cielos has been ranked No. 1 in its daypart on Televisa's Channel 9 in Mexico.
El Señor de los Cielos is already in preproduction for its third season, Mintz added. It is slated to premiere on Telemundo in 2015; the network has not officially disclosed a target date.
