Telefonica Deutschland Taps Siemens

Siemens Communications won a contract to help German telecommunications-solutions provider Telefonica Deutschland upgrade its network to offer Internet-service providers broadband services such as voice over IP, IPTV and video-on-demand.

For the first step in the process, Siemens supplied M- and T-series routers from Juniper Networks and Metro Ethernet switches from Extreme Networks and integrated them in Telefonica Deutschland’s backbone network in Frankfurt, Berlin and Dusseldorf.

Telefonica Deutschland said it plans to supply more than 1,500 cities and towns with asymmetrical-digital-subscriber-line 2+ technology by mid-2007, reaching about 60% of German households.
