Ted Schremp, a cable industry vet who is late of Charter Communications, has been appointed chief marketing officer of interactive guide and video software specialist Rovi, which recently fired a patent lawsuit at Comcast.

Schremp will be based at Rovi’s office in Wayne, Pa., and report to  John Burke, Rovi’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, a former Motorola and Arris exec who joined Rovi in 2014.

Schremp most recently was CEO for SmartHomes Ventures, an Internet of Things startup focused on the smart home market, and was executive vice president and chief strategy officer of First Media Group of Indonesia, and was CEO of First Media/Link Net, Indonesia’s largest cable TV and internet provider.

Schremp, who started his telecom industry career at AT&T, also served as EVP of operations and marketing at Charter, and left the MSO in 2011 after a period of about six years with the company.

“Ted’s accomplishments across transformational and high-growth business environments are invaluable to Rovi as we accelerate the development and deployment of our products, differentiate our brand and deliver industry-leading entertainment experiences to our customers and consumers around the world,” Burke said in a statement. “I am confident that under Ted’s leadership, we will further enhance our reputation as an innovative entertainment technology and solutions provider committed to revolutionizing content discovery.”

“Rovi's ongoing investment in new products and technologies are improving the way consumers find, discover and consume content across devices at home and on the go,” Schremp added. “I am excited to join an industry leader that is bringing groundbreaking entertainment solutions to customers and viewers around the world.”
