Several vendors have joined with Cox Communications Inc. and Comcast Cable
Communications Inc. to form the Broadband GIS (Geographical Information Systems)
Forum.
The group is dedicated to getting cable MSOs to more widely use GIS, which
aids in mapping construction for new service areas.
Vendors participating include Broadband Services Inc., Fishel, MasTec Inc.
and Kanotech Information Systems Ltd. Seren Innovations Inc. is also part of the
venture.
The group will seek to define GIS standards, including data modeling and
attribution, application-interface standards and naming
conventions.
