Talk Host Ismael Cala Exits CNN en Español

For nearly six years, CNN en Español viewers could tune in weeknights at 9 p.m. ET to hear Cuban-born writer and journalist Ismael Cala offer insight and opinions on the day's top news stories on studio program Cala.

As of July 1, the discussion is now being led by network veteran Camlio Egaña, and the program has been retitled Kmilo. In a statement released June 15 by CNN en Español, Cala said he will now focus on his career as a motivational speaker and author.

“A great learning cycle has closed, and I want to thank CNN en Español senior vice president and GM Cynthia Hudson, VP of programming and production Eduardo Suarez, and the rest of the executive team for the confidence they had in me during all this time,” Cala said. “I'll be eternally grateful to my great production team. I enjoyed the journey and growth in the program, but now it is time for me to break paradigms, explore new horizons and reinvent myself. I also want to give a very special thanks to our viewers throughout this continent, for their affection and the love they have given me every day.”

Egaña joined CNN en Español in October 2010 as the presenter of the weekend news magazine Mirador Mundial. He most recently served as the host for the weekday afternoon news and information program Encuentro, which airs at 5 p.m. ET.

"This is more than a challenge,” Egaña said. “It is an honor and a huge responsibility. It’s interesting that even with a 30-year career, I feel as if everything starts again. Everyone should feel this at least once in their lifetime. It is a wonderful feeling.

“I leave Encuentro with some mixed feelings and sadness because it has been a daily pretext to accompany people and create a loyal and demanding audience, and also because I leave a great team of producers with whom I share the glorious feeling of friendship,” he added.

Taking on the role as Encuentro’s new host is Guillermo Arduino, currently the host of Mirador Mundial. He will continue as the host of the weekday 30-minute tech talk program Clix. Arduino is a 17-year network veteran.

Now serving as host of Mirador Mundial, which airs Saturdays and Sundays at 6 p.m. ET, is CNN Worldwide senior Latin America affairs editor Rafael Romo. He has been with CNN en Español since October 2009 and previously worked as an on-air reporter in Chicago for Univision and for CBS's WBBM-TV.
