Starz Encore Group LLC said Tuesday that it has renamed the former BET Movies
premium channel with the new moniker Black Starz!.
The Englewood, Colo.-based programmer recently took 100 percent control of
the network. BET Holdings Inc. previously had a stake in a joint venture, prior
to Viacom Inc. closing a deal to buy BET.
According to a spokeswoman for BET Movies, no personnel changes were involved
in the move.
Starz Encore has created a new logo for the Black Starz! network, the only
premium-movie channel devoted exclusively to African-American
viewers.
