Sprint Corp. has launched 'Broadband Direct,' its broadband fixed-wireless
product, to businesses and residences in the Chicagoland area, upping the
competitive ante with AT&T Broadband, the area's incumbent
cable-modem-service provider.
Promising two-way speeds up to 50 times faster than standard dial-up
connections and burst rates as high as 5 megabits per second via a
diamond-shaped antenna, Sprint said the service is now available in 140
Chicago-area cities, including Naperville, Northbrook, Schaumburg, Lombard,
Bolingbrook, Orland Park and Harvey.
Broadband Direct's base residential offering goes for $49.95 per month,
rising to $199.95 for business-class service. Sprint discounts those fees when
Broadband Direct is bundled with the company's voice offerings.
