Silva Resigns at Charter

Charter Communications Inc. lost another top executive with the resignation of executive vice president and chief technology officer Steve Silva, according to a securities filing made last week.

In a tersely worded statement, Charter said Silva resigned for personal reasons. No immediate replacement has been named.

Silva is the eighth top executive to resign from Charter since December, when chief operating officer Dave Barford and chief financial officer Kent Kalkwarf were terminated by the St. Louis-based MSO for reasons tied to a federal investigation of some company accounting practices.

Sources close to Charter said that Silva's resignation had nothing to do with the investigation.

Charter CEO Carl Vogel initiated a sweeping management restructuring in late December, realigning its regional operations and naming several cable veterans to key positions.

Among Charter's other management departures are former senior vice president of marketing and programming Diane Schneiderjohn, who resigned in April for personal reasons. In March, Charter senior vice president and treasurer Ralph Kelly resigned for personal reasons and in February, senior vice president of operations for the Southeast division David McCall and senior vice president of programming Patty McCaskill left.

McCaskill joined St. Louis-based telecommunications investment and management firm Cequel III as vice president of programming and Kelly also went to Cequel as senior vice president and treasurer. Cequel is headed by former Charter CEO Jerry Kent.

In December, senior vice president of operations William Shreffler also resigned. Shreffler also now works for Cequel.
