Showtime Plans Soul Food Promotions

Showtime Networks Inc. announced Tuesday that it has slated two December
promotions around its Soul Food series.

The 'Soul Food Night Out Sweepstakes,' due to run Dec. 17 through Feb.
17, will offer as its grand prize a trip for four to Toronto, where the winners
will spend a night on the town with some of the original series' cast members.
The cash value: $4,600.

Showtime will support the consumer sweeps with in-store posters and
counter-card displays, as well as a 60-second on-air promo spot and paid
60-second radio commercials in a number of the top 10 DMAs.

Consumers can also enter online at soulfood.SHO.com .

The second consumer promotion, the 'Lawry's Soul Food Cook-Off
Contest,' sponsored by Lawry's, will begin Dec. 12.

The recipe contest -- requiring Lawry's seasoned salt as an ingredient --
will narrow entries to 15 semifinalists in March. From these, a panel of chefs
and restaurateurs will select five finalists.

The five finalists will be flown to Lawry's test kitchen in Los Angeles in
May to prepare their recipes for a panel of judges. The grand-prize winner will
get $3,000 from Lawry's to put toward new kitchen appliances.

Lawry's is also part of the Night Out sweepstakes, offering one first-prize
winner a dinner for two at one of its 'The Prime Rib' eateries.

Showtime recently ordered 40 more episodes of Soul Food, based on the
1997 film of the same name, ensuring a third and fourth season for the show.

The series focuses on multigenerational familial
relationships, centering on three African-American sisters in Chicago.
