has launched the "DSL2000," a broadband services gateway designed to deliver as multiple voice and data lines to small offices and businesses and eventually multi-dwelling units.
ShareGate said the equipment would undergo lab and field trials during the fourth quarter of this year, and reach commercial availability in the first quarter of 2001.
ShareGate claims the device is the first to meld digital subscriber line-based, high-speed data and voice services over existing "twisted pair" wiring. The gear will support as many as four digital voice lines and network as many as ten computers, allowing them to share files and Internet access, the company said.
Though ShareGate's current gateway is designed for DSL, future versions will support cable and wireless infrastructures. ShareGate's cable gateway is slated to bow mid-to-late 2001, the company said during a recent meeting with reporters.
ShareGate will sell the DSL2000 directly to service providers for about $699 each.
