SeaChange International named George Kajos, previously director of engineering in Motorola Mobility’s VOD group, general manager for its Platform business unit. Kajos takes over for CTO Steve Davi, who left the company last month to join Synacor.
Kajos reports to SeaChange CEO Raghu Rau. As GM of the Platform group, Kajos leads the product development for the company’s Adrenalin video platform, Nitro user interface and other multiscreen software products.
Kajos had been director of engineering for Motorola video-on-demand products since 2006, when Motorola acquired VOD startup Broadbus Technologies. Before joining Broadbus in 2002, he was co-founder and vice president of software engineering for Gotham Networks and also held senior engineering positions at VideoServer, SynOptics Communications, Prime Computer and BBN Communications.
“George is well known and respected throughout the video service provider community and is the ideal leader for SeaChange’s highly accomplished video platform development organization,” Rau said in a statement. “Adding to our other recent senior management appointments, George further strengthens SeaChange’s leadership team and our focus on core service provider customers.”
Kajos is named in several patents and patents pending for technologies associated with video distribution and has published journal and conference papers on related topics. He earned an MBA from Bentley College, a master’s in computer science from the University of California at Los Angeles and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University.
Separately, Google is in the process of selling Motorola’s Home division, which includes VOD systems. U.K. set-top manufacturer Pace confirmed it submitted a bid for the Home business, and Arris Group also is reported to have made a proposal.
