Se; TV, Voto Latino Choose Convention Reporters

Sí TV and Voto Latino have chosen two young Latinos to cover this year’s Democratic and Republican National Conventions for both the English-language cable channel and its Web site properties.

Wendy Carrillo and Michael Monroy became the winners of Sí TV’s Crash the Parties, an initiative to foster the participation of young Latinos in the nation’s political arena. Carrillo, originally from El Salvador, will be in charge of covering the Democratic Convention in Denver, while Monroy, the son of immigrants from Colombia and Bolivia, will be at the Republican Convention in Minneapolis.

“Crash the Parties is sort of our first step in our bigger advocacy platform,” said Lisa Black, senior VP of marketing and digital media of Sí TV. “We want to help cultivate the Latino leaders of tomorrow.”

The winners this weekend (Aug. 9) will be traveling to Atlanta where they will work with and receive insider advice from CNN’s Rick Sánchez. Carrillo and Monroy, both in their early 20s, have already received D.C. press training and are expected to report live during the upcoming national conventions and become featured political bloggers on sitv.com. Reports from the Conventions will also be available for viewing in Verizon’s V-Cast Elections ’08 folder, available to 2 million subscribers.
