SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2010: Motorola Web Tool Lets Broadband Users Help Themselves
Motorola has taken the wraps off Edge Home Center, a Web-based self-service console to let broadband customers set up their home networks -- and troubleshoot any problems -- without calling up their provider for help.
Home Center, to be available in December for first customer installations, is part of Motorola's Edge Service Assurance Software Suite. The system provides gateway management features, Wi-Fi controls, PC diagnostics, a network map and security settings. Subscribers can log in to a Web portal, at home or elsewhere, to manage any device or service.
In addition, if a subscriber does eventually call for technical support, Edge Home Center can show a service provider's agent any self-care steps the subscriber has already taken.
"With the new interoperability capabilities of today's media devices and the increased tech savviness of today's consumer, the subscriber now has the tools to own such home network management tasks," Alan Lefkof, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola Mobility's Software Solutions, said in a statement. "That's why we're delivering innovative service assurance solutions that will be relevant and efficient both now and in the future."
Home Center can discover and manage non-Motorola devices, and also accommodate optional services such as antivirus, PC backup, home automation or third-party applications, according to the company.
