Scientific-Atlanta Inc. said Excite@Home Corp. has awarded 'Level 2' approval
to its 'WebSTAR DPX110' cable modem, giving S-A the green light to market the
unit to @Home's MSO affiliates.
S-A's WebSTAR DPX110 model -- which uses Broadcom Corp. silicon and is the
product of a manufacturing and research-and-development partnership with Askey
Computer Corp. -- is certified for Data Over Cable Service Interface
Specification 1.0. In comparison, the company's 'WebSTAR DPQ' model houses an
S-A chip set.
To date, S-A has shipped more than 150,000 WebSTARs.
The DPX110 is also designed so that it can be upgraded to comply with the
more advanced DOCSIS 1.1 spec via a software upgrade, S-A
said.
